Charles Finney may have lived and preached 200 years ago, but what he has to say sounds like he’s talking to 21st Century churches.
You might almost think he’s locked onto some failings and temptations that are universal to preachers down through the centuries.
It’s not just for the preachers, either. There’s some fantastic lessons for anyone sitting under the preaching, too. Like the story they tell about the time only one guy showed up for a Sunday message.
If we want a genuinely healthy society, we’re going to need healthy churches first. And a healthy church starts with the guy in the pulpit locking in and making the Main Thing the Main Thing.
Because once the spark of revival actually fans into a flame, there’s no telling WHERE that fire will burn.

While you’re at it, here’s Doug’s latest book:
If a person looked to Scripture and paid particular attention to the passages within the Bible that address the topic of hunting, then they’d walk away thinking not only is hunting animals tolerated but it is endorsed by God. And that’s exactly what this little book is about: proving that God, from Genesis to Revelation, is extremely cool with hunters and hunting. I’ll go out on a biblical limb and claim right off the bat that you cannot show me, through the balance of the Bible, that the God of the Scripture is against the responsible killing and the grilling of the animals He created. ~Doug Giles
