Until 2015, Bari Weiss would have been described an ordinary centre-left journalist who cared about her craft. Then the world lost its damn mind.
CBS News’s Bari Weiss will reportedly oversee CNN’s editorial operations should Paramount Skydance move forward with the acquisition of Warner Bros, Axios first reported.
Paramount is reportedly looking for a partner for Weiss to handle the business side of operations, which Axios suggested signaled Weiss would take overall editorial decisions for both outlets.
Weiss has overseen a dramatic overhaul of CBS News after the buyout of her own The Free Press. She achieved national recognition for a high-profile exit from the New York Times. She later created her own digital outlet. — Just The News
To know why this is a big deal, you need to step back and look at her career. For years, she worked at the Wall Street Journal, and then she followed her editor to the New York Times, where she worked until 2020.
When NYTimes showed its true colors after printing the Tom Cotton op-ed and then bending to Slack Channel internal demands that the person who ran the op-ed get fired, (he technically ‘resigned’ after 1000 staff signatures were added to a letter demanding his dismissal), she held to her principles and resigned.
At a time where news outlets were famously bleeding red ink, she launched her own journalistic enterprise ‘The Free Press’ that she sold for $150M four years later. Her secret sauce? Tell news stories the way people used to tell news stories.
We saw what happened since then — she was brought in to right the ship in CBS. The jury is still out, but all the right people are angry at her, and they seem willing to cover stories Dems want to see buried (like the California Hospices), so that’s a positive sign.
Her critics are reflexively calling her ‘MAGA’. Kind of a tough sell for a centre-left journalist. Especially one in a lesbian marriage. But what else are her critics going to say? They’re so accustomed to the guilt-by-association attacks that they have no muscle memory for how to disagree on principle and issues.
Recently she sat down with 60 Minutes blowhard Pelley, who came in sporting for a fight. So she fired him, and, much as Stephen Colbert did, he’s been clutching his pearls with anyone who would listen ever since.
Pivoting for a moment to our own opinion on this development — if the merger goes through, and Skydance gets control of CNN, it could be the most poetic justice ending imaginable.
Why? Simple. This is the outfit that led the charge in the ‘Fake News’ wars of the first term. They were tip-of-the-spear in Russiagate and the Resistance. Stormy Daniels and her creepy Porn lawyer. Fauci and the Cuomo bros. Management ran the COVID death clock 24/7 with the deliberate intent of discrediting Trump. (Gone forever once Biden took over.) Mostly Peaceful riots.
It was directly responsible for the ‘Very Fine People’ hoax, which they could — and should — have discredited every time they omitted the denunciation of racism that followed in the 47 seconds after the clip.
It’s a network of activists. I’m not sure which would be funnier — seeing a wave of firings that make Elon’s Twitter takeover look like amateur hour? Imagine if she keeps the title ‘Reliable Sources’ and replaces the Potato with someone who actually lives up to the show title?
Or seeing the smug activists forced to tell honest news, including the kind that speaks well of the party they hate with the heat of a thousand suns, or (possibly worse) telling the damning truth about Democrat corruption they have been desperately hiding for years.
For some, that might seem like a fate worse than death.
