Remember those stories in the Obama years about federal employees stiffing their tax payments? They’re still here.
But let’s not forget how Biden went out of his way to hire 87,000 new IRS agents to sniff out those ‘millionaires and billionaires’ who ‘aren’t paying their fair share’. While he was doing that, his administration empowered themselves to snoop at any Venmo payments that exceeded a couple hundred dollars in a year.
If his team was SERIOUS about finding the deadbeats, we should have turned every last one of those 87,000 people on two priorities: one, scrutinizing government programs, conducting forensic audits on any suspicious payments like the ones that JD Vance’s fraud task force are prosecuting by the hundreds, and identifying those wasteful spending programs, unused subscriptions, and slush funds that we had to bring DOGE in to identify.
But that’s only part of the problem they ought to have been solving. They should have been scrutinizing the tax records of Government Employees. How many of these government employees are getting more far more money than the average Joe Sixpack, complete with a tidy sum in a government pension … while stiffing the government on their own taxes?
It’s one thing for one or two people to find themselves falling on hard times. Looking after a relative, or upside down on the value of their home. But none of that explains five hundred and seventy one THOUSAND federal employees refusing to pay up.
Six billion is a lot of money. Just imagine how many learing centers that would fund!
In May 2026, the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) published a disturbing report showing that, as of Fiscal Year (FY) 2024, more than 571,000 current federal and retired employees owed an outstanding tax
obligation of approximately $6.3 billion (an average of more than $11,000 of debt per employee).
From FY 2021 to FY 2024, this obligation increased by $1.5 billion (32 percent) and the number of delinquent employees grew by 43 percent. Concerningly, TIGTA’s report also shows that the rate of non-filers continued to increase, with approximately 50,000 current federal civilian employees failing to file a tax return at all for two or more tax years. The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) accounted for 33 percent of these non-filers, with nearly 15,000 USPS repeat non-filers. TIGTA’s analysis found that nearly 14,000 of the total repeat non-filers were also high-income federal employees, earning estimated income of $100,000 or more largely from their federal government salaries.

These are the some of the same federal employees who were foaming at the mouth over DOGE cuts looking for savings.
More than 100 didn’t even file a return for eight years??? Shameful.
If we really care about people not paying their fair share, we should start going after these people, blocking them from ever receiving a government paycheck, and take action. Where appropriate, clawing back earnings and prosecuting criminal violations.

Fortunately, we’ve got adults running the show now. (To some extent, at least.) And people taking direct action in putting a stop to it.
