In case political passions weren’t already running hot enough yet in this election cycle, this will kick things up a few degrees more.
Leftists in general have a particular beef with Columbus Day. But for Ilhan Omar, this one will be remembered with a particular dislike. It was the day in which DOJ agents showed up in her DC home. At dawn. With a warrant.
News spread pretty quickly, and opinions broke pretty cleanly across political lines.
The Left was quick to trot out accusations of the ‘weaponization of government’, calling Trump a tyrant or worse. The Right, meanwhile wondered what took them so long to finally pull the trigger after so many years of her past and recent behavior tripping red flags a-plenty.
Ilhan herself, not surprisingly, denounces the raid in the strongest possible terms, denying any wrongdoing.
Omar called the search “the latest escalation” in Trump’s “campaign of political intimidation.”
“I’m ok. Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement,” she wrote on X. “For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation. I will not be silenced.” — CNN
Won’t be silenced? No kidding.
If ever arrested, she’ll have the right to remain silent, but like Shrek said of Donkey, she ‘lacks the capacity’. But let’s not get ahead of the story here.
The investigation was signed off by a judge in DC. The judges there, if anyone has forgotten, are NOT Trump appointees. Not even close. And yet, the warrant was still signed, despite midterm elections being about three weeks away. There is a lot of speculation, but one word in particular changes the complexion of the raid entirely: RICO.
The raid on Ilhan Omar’s home by DHS is based on a RICO case. This investigation was started under the Biden administration. https://t.co/EtzNGQhohw

RICO. Keep that word in mind as Democrats and leftwing journos circle the wagons around her and point accusatory fingers at Trump’s DOJ in the next few weeks. Because if this raid came AFTER an investigation into some of the various Minnesota fraud schemes in which her name came up, or in connection to massive irregularities in the tax filings with her latest husband, or allegations of immigration fraud and a fraudulent marriage involving her own brother (yuck), defending her just before charges for a well-sourced case and criminal charges would be a devastating trap for the party to fall into.
Especially as massive fraud has become the first scandal big enough to threaten the hammerlock Democrats have had on Minnesota for generations, despite the left and their media mouthpieces demonizing the independent YouTuber (Nick Shirley) that risked life and limb to expose the scam.
Investigations there were ongoing almost since Kash Patel and Dan Bongino were sworn in, and we’re already seeing dozens of convictions there. If it turns out this raid comes at the END of an investigation (to put the final nail in the coffin) rather than the beginning (like Biden’s Mar-A-Lago entirely lawless fishing expedition), all of her Democrat defenders will be left holding the bag and defending the indefensible yet again.
There may have been some gloating on the right…

But the left did some celebrating of their own, didn’t they?
When Trump’s home is being raided, and his family is being tracked, it’s “No one is above the law.”
Colbert was celebrating like it was Christmas morning.
When Ilhan Omar’s house is raided, America is a “fascist police state.” https://t.co/vJcqIbjNT4

In their defense, all they did was quote her own words back to her.
How are the Democrats doing? Well, here is a sample of their response:
Ilhan Omar’s Democratic colleagues have condemned federal agents’ search of the Minnesota congresswoman’s home on Monday morning, describing it as “deeply disturbing” and emblematic of the Trump administration’s “corrupt weaponization” of the US government.
House Democratic leaders, including minority leader Hakeem Jeffries, party whip Katherine Clark and caucus chair Pete Aguilar, issued a joint statement excoriating the president for the search.
“The Trump administration’s raid on congresswoman Ilhan Omar’s home is deeply disturbing and raises serious questions about the continued corrupt weaponization of the federal government against [the president’s] adversaries,” their statement said. — Guardian
These are the VERY same Democrats who hadn’t the slightest twinge of outrage during hearings in which it was shown that Jack Smith blew through any number of Constitutional checks and balances limiting his power, and deceived courts so he could secretly trick courts into granting unlawful access to the phone records of sitting members of Congress and Senate, and worse still, spying on the cell phone of then-sixteen year old Barron Trump.
And they presume to lecture US about ‘weaponization’, eh?
I’m not sure why she’s so upset about calls to have her stripped of fraudulent citizenship and sent home to Somalia. She herself already expressed a preference to live there and raise her kids there.
Rep. Ilhan Omar: "I’m a Somali girl. I miss my country. I dream of living in Somalia again."
Let’s finally fulfill her dreams https://t.co/ntagMFCExq

As Columbo used to say, there’s just one more thing. A question Dems might want to answer in their allegations of Trump ‘weaponizing’ the DOJ. How did this investigation begin?

But really, now.
How can you trust the New York Times not to serve as a mouthpiece of…
Nope. Couldn’t even finish TYPING that sentence with a straight face.
