A recent poll suggested about 50% of Christians are likely to show up on election day, and a large percentage of those who will are breaking left. You’ve heard all of the OTHER reasons to pick one group over the other. Let’s look at the question through the lens of faith.
This article started with the detail about the Haley Stevens story that most missed: WHERE the endorsement happened. Church.
Right off the top, let’s dispense with any claim that Christians look for a political saviour to save them from all of their problems. That’s not only stupid, it’s reckless, from a Christian perspective. It absolves the Church from the divine mandate of being cultural salt and light. On the other end of the spectrum, we are blessed to live in a country where we make direct choices as to who exercises authority over us, and whether the vision of those exercising such power is hostile or friendly to the life Christ has called us into.
One need look no further than California to discover how important the civic responsibility of choosing good leadership can be. The state that once chose Ronald Reagan for its governor and still leaned right until the Clinton administration has now gone so far left that the political left is shameless about protecting their grift and schemes to cheat the system. Even now they’re fighting to keep 20,000 illegal aliens on the voter rolls, unwilling that they should even be sequestered long enough to confirm their eligibility.
And why? There IS no convincing patriotic answer to that question. It’s all about power at any cost.
Once a system like that is entrenched, it’s important to recall that it’s not a simple matter of ‘throwing the bums out’ if you think they’re garbage politicians.
We saw Haley Stevens — who had endorsed his candidacy after the primary — press Abdul El-Sayed to reject racial and inflammatory rhetoric. (Like this example of an El-Sayed supporter who says she should have KILLED someone instead of just attacking her.) Sayed didn’t just ignore her, he threw her out of his meetings. Stevens decided she could NOT endorse the sort of hate he actively aligned himself with (article here) and made a statement most missed by going to church with the Republican candidate.
The New-Look Democrat party is nothing like the one for which your grandparents might have voted. Patriotism is no longer a value they support. The are openly pledging to ‘fundamentally transform’ the county in ways that will strip away what was established in the Constitution and create a defacto one party state little different than any other (other) communist or third world totalitarian single-party regime.
All in the name of ‘saving democracy’ of course.
For all the left’s hue and cry about the threat of Christian theocracy, traditional Christianity (at least in the American expression of it) is the one political option on the menu that actually makes a clean divide between religion and politics.
The other options on the menu collapse faith and politics into a singularity. The secular left has no regard for religion at all, and is more than happy to wage war against it. When we stand opposed to Islam and Shariah law, it’s because unlike Christianity, Islam does not accept that it is to be subject to the laws of the land. It insists on rewriting them, and worse, dividing citizens into ‘believer’ and ‘unbeliever’ classes. The ruling class and the subjugated, who are forced to pay a punitive tax for the ‘privilege’ of being left alone to worship according to their conscience. Husbands are permitted to beat their wives, and girls can be married off (in some cases, against their will) from the moment they begin puberty. We have seen how outsiders are treated when Sharia compliant people gain cultural ascendency. And whatever ELSE it might be called, it is NOT ‘American’.
And finally, we’ve got the Talarico wokester crowd. They wear performative Christianity as a skinsuit. Maybe they even go to seminary to tell the world how they ‘get’ Christianity in ways the ‘great unwashed’ do not. But like the others, their ‘faith’ has an uncanny way of embracing the precise form of EVERY position held by the political left. And when those goalposts get moved again in a few months he’ll embrace those new ‘ideas, too.
This isn’t just theory. It has real-world practical effects.
In the Biden years we saw Churches closed down for COVID, while strip clubs and liquor stores remained open. We saw FBI using wildly biased SPLC directives as a pretext to target Catholic Churches for the crime of using Latin Mass. We saw the FACE act used to perform predawn raids of people like Mark Houck, while turning a blind eye to domestic terror groups like Jane’s Revenge vandalizing and even firebombing churches and clinics protected by the same legislation. Even in foreign relations, Biden dropped the ‘nation of concern’ status in Nigeria where Christians are being kidnapped and slaughtered en masse by terror groups. Trump established that status, and restored it when he returned to office.
Biden prioritized dudes in dresses in the military. Hegseth prioritized restoring clergy to the role first established by George Washington himself.

Biden celebrated ‘Trans Day of Visibility’ on Easter Sunday, and gave only the most tepid and generic vaguely religious message around Christmas and Easter.
But Trump, for all his personal failings, understands the Christian role in American history and unashamedly points back to it, not only for Christmas, Good Friday and Easter, but for the lesser special days that are important to Catholics, and (most recently) to Protestants, in his Reformation Day message on the official White House social media channel.
Perhaps the strongest example would be that of Trump’s Secretary of State, Marco Rubio. We give him the last word, in his celebration of Religious Freedom day.
It’s not just a question of whether you like what the GOP has been doing. Some of it has been great. Others, not so much.
But we ALSO have to consider the question of whether you can trust the Dems not to actively target and harass you. Because — as we saw in the Biden years — whatever we pick, we’re stuck with. There are no takesie-backsies if we decide we really don’t like the result.
America, more than any other nation in world history, was shaped by the Christian tradition of spreading the gospel unto all nations.
