The New Covenant Smokes The Old

You don’t need to take a DeLorean up to 88mph to see what the ‘good old days’ of biblical belief are. We’re LIVING in the ‘good old days’.

No, not the megachurch shopping mall flavour of churchianity, rigid bells-and-smells of hidebound tradition, or pray like Che revolutionary activist types. That’s losing the plot. No surprise there: if you’ve read The Book, you already know humanity has a long and rich history of totally missing the point. And that’s even AFTER God puts us back on the rails.

When we say we’re LIVING in the ‘good old days’, we’re talking GOSPEL.

Some people go sifting through the old traditions of Jewish customs to wring out the ‘hidden’ excellence of what Christianity was meant to be.

Really? We’ve got an entire BOOK of the New Testament giving actual chapter-and-verse explaining why what God gave us in Christ is BETTER that what came before. It’s a little like a young squab losing interest in his little RC sportscar the second he’s holding the keys of a brand new Corvette convertible.

Suddenly, that radio-controlled car just ain’t that compelling.

And so it is with Christ and the gospel replacing the spiritual training wheels (or as Paul called it ‘schoolmaster’ or ‘guardian’) that came before it under the Old Testament sacrificial system.

What’s that ‘new Corvette’ look like under the Gospel context?
