AOC Tries to Blame Staff Member for Her Met Event Ethics Violations

By Andrew West,

We’ve long understood that our elected officials are a bit sleazy, that’s for sure.  In fact, we have almost come to revere this sort of conniving cunning as an asset in the underbelly of The Beltway – at least in moderation and only when it actually behooves the constituents.

But plenty of public servants have trouble knowing just when to turn it off, and they get caught using their powers for self-preservation and petty victories.

This week, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez provided an example of such selfishness.

New York Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez blamed a campaign staffer for not paying her Met Gala invoices in time, according to interviews with investigators from the House of Representatives ethics office.

In the interviews, the star Democratic lawmaker told the Office of Congressional Ethics that she just saw documents about the unpaid invoices the day before they met.

“And I just never, ever, ever would have allowed that to happen knowing what I have learned,” she told investigators, “But I wasn’t privy to the invoices, wasn’t privy to the ones that had been sent.”

Her statement fell short of an apology or an admission, however.

AOC added: “And it is just a deeply regrettable situation. I feel l terrible for especially the small businesses that were impacted.”

The staffer, who longer works for AOC, suggested that the expenses “fell off [their] radar” due to not having the Congresswoman’s current credit card information.
