Our own Albin Sadar’s back with another political cartoon, this time he’s riffing on Barack Obama’s moral quandary… which moral rake should he step on this time?
On one hand, as the only President with both White and Black ancestry, he was uniquely qualified to help America turn the page on the worst chapters of its own history and help both groups move forward to a unified vision of the future.
He could have become the unifier in chief. He chose instead to whip up animus and pick scapegoats. There were several critical moments of his presidency where he could have leveraged his bully pulpit to become the voice of reason and bring down tensions that had boiled over. Treyvon Martin. Ferguson. And especially, the racially-motivated murder of white cops in Dallas who were ironically murdered while trying to protect civilians they were escorting in a BLM march. (Five cops died, 9 wounded, along with 2 civilians.)
He chose to invoke ‘systemic racism’ in the police force at a moment when the nation was torn up over the dead and wounded who had been killed or injured defending the rights of civilians to peacefully petition their government. The left is often accused of elevating theoretical issues and hypothetical groups of people above those who live and breathe in the world around us. This is one such example.
On the other hand, Obama is also very fond of elevating absolutely indefensible leftists while attacking others better than himself. He backed Mamdani. He pretended Abigail Spanberger was a moderate. His ‘they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them’ was long remembered by those who helped block Hillary’s election. And speaking of Shrillery, we’ve since learned that his fingerprints were ALL over those Crossfire Hurricane plots to strangle Trump’s presidency in the cradle.
Obama is incapable of quietly riding off into the sunset like so many presidents before him. The news cycle is like catnip, especially if he’s got a chance to agitate during a Trump presidency.
Especially with his monstrosity of a ‘library’ opening last week, he is even more desperate than usual to pull at that spotlight.
He saw two tantalizing opportunities to jump into the news cycle open up at the same time.
He came to a point of decision… and he made his choice.
In his choosing, he chose the Yogi Berra option: when you come to a fork in the road take it.
