Last week, Reuters and Ipsos released its latest 2024 presidential poll and was shocked to find that if the election were held today Trump would win the Electoral College vote very convincingly.
The Reuters report started off saying that Biden’s reelection is in peril.
“U.S. President Joe Biden’s chances of re-election are being jeopardized by voters’ concerns over his age, the economy and crime, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll, creating an opportunity for Republican challenger Donald Trump to return to the White House,” the news service wrote.
The report went on to say that the new poll finds Biden and Trump both tied with 39 percent of the vote.
The poll was conducted from September 8 to 14 and surveyed 4,413 U.S. adults.
But drilling down in the poll found that Trump is actually in the lead if the poll can be believed. That is because he is actually leading in the important battle ground states of Arizona, Georgia, Wisconsin, Nevada, North Carolina, Michigan, and Pennsylvania.
Indeed, Trump is up six points in these states, 41 to Biden’s 35.
Taking the other states into consideration, that would give Trump 312 electoral votes to Biden’s 226. So, according to this poll, Trump has more than the 270 needed to win the White House.
“Biden faces the risk of losing independent voters, whom he won decisively in 2020. If the election were held now, Trump had 32% support among independents to Biden’s 30%, effectively a tie with a 38% plurality still undecided, the poll found,” Reuters wrote.
We are still a long way off from Election Day, and if rumors that the Democrat Party is working behind the scenes to engineer Biden and Kamala Harris out of the 2024 nomination turn out to be true, the race will change drastically.
