I was a college student in 1973 when the Court legalized abortion nationally. Women on campus called for a meeting to discuss the issue. I was part of a small group of men who wanted to attend, if only to listen. We were told we were not welcome. We were told this was none of our business.
Here we are 51 years later. The Court ruled in 2022 that the 1973 decision was errant. The Court ruled that individual states should have the authority to regulate or ban abortion in their jurisdictions. So instead of the 1973 Court arbitrarily deciding the matter for everyone (including a majority opposed to abortion), the 2022 Dobbs decision put the question to the states, providing citizens a right to choose for themselves, and in the process, allowing for real tolerance, diversity and equality.
Critics however claimed Dobbs would cause a public health crisis by denying women access to legal and safe abortions. This has not been shown by the evidence thus far, but it is true women seeking abortion must at times travel to a state where it is legal. It is also true the rate of abortion has slowed.
It is entirely untrue that Dobbs banned abortion, hurting millions of women. Rather, the Court rightly empowered the states to seek and follow the will of The People. This is the way a Republic functions, by focusing on the will of the People rather than the will of the elites.
Now the elites must find ways to fashion new weapons to dismantle the Republic, and in the process exploit the issue to deny Trump a second term. Now they sharpen raging debates over IVF and the abortion pill, all to convince women to vote Democrat.
This is not a political issue. It is a moral issue. Since 1973, we’ve put to death 70 million innocent human beings. In the process we have also seriously injured an enormous number of women. The injury to men exists but it is never discussed.
What good have we accomplished? Have we lost conscience? Are we bothered by the fact aborted tissue is bought and sold, that some organs are taken while the child is alive?
For 51 years we have allowed innocent blood to be shed on the altar of convenience, drawing battle lines in a vicious war which continues to tear us apart. No matter what you’ve been told, this is everyone’s business. The abortion vote will decide the future of this country. Will we embrace life, or succumb to the death culture?
